About

The Department of Art and Design is devoted to the practice, the history, and the theory of the visual arts and design. Comprising three divisions—Design Studies, Fine Arts, and the History of Art, Design, and Visual Culture (HADVC)—its rich complement of faculty and staff provides students in its undergraduate and graduate programs with one of the best university educations available in North America.

Here you will find information about our Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Design (BDes), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), and BA Honors undergraduate programs, our Master of Design (in Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design), our Master of Fine Arts (in Drawing & Intermedia, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture), our Master of Arts in HADVC, and our Interdisciplinary PhD programs. In addition, we are currently developing a PhD in the History of Art, Design, and Visual Culture which will begin admitting students in 2012.

Graduates from the Department of Art and Design find career opportunities across a broad spectrum of the cultural sectors. Former students are employed in jobs that range from museum and gallery curators and university professors, to exhibition designers, art administrators, art and design educators, full time artists, and self employed designers.
