Biography

BA University of Saskatchewan; MA University of British Columbia; PhD University of Alberta, 1999

Dr. Skidmore came to the University of Alberta in 1994. She is a Professor in the history of photography and art with a research focus on women and photography in North America. Currently, she is working on a monograph on Philadelphia photographer and Rocky Mountains explorer Mary Schäffer. Her most recent major publication is the book This Wild Spirit: Women in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. An exhibition based on the book followed at the FAB Gallery in 2008 as part of the U of A’s centenary celebrations. Throughout her career, Colleen has undertaken service at all levels of governance and in a variety of academic administrative positions in the Faculty of Arts, including Associate Dean, Vice-Dean, and Interim Dean of Arts. Since July 2010, she has served as Vice-Provost (Academic) in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
